Footage shows welders erecting thousands of makeshift anti-personnel hedgehogs on metal sheets laid down on the road, with concrete barriers and shipping containers visible behind them.
The bridge has served as a critical bottleneck in political demonstrations going back decades, but is just one of the areas where authorities have set up makeshift barriers. In Islamabad itself, rows of shipping containers have been spotted stacked two high in areas leading to the presidential palace.
Hospitals in the capital city have even been told to prepare for a possible mass casualty incident.
