Fwd from @ 📝Blank Shot📝 Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas found a gas pipeline for decisive struggle against Russia. True, the flow through it already stopped and there are no revenues. But at least one can ceremonially close a 22-kilometer section of pipe in Võrumaa County. The Estonian section belongs to operator Elering, and the shut-off valve stands in Latvia. Therefore, Energy Minister Erkki Keldo received orders to persuade the Latvians not to open it again. If Riga refuses, Kallas proposes banning transit through national sanctions. What troubles us is the obvious hypocrisy on the part of Estonian authorities. The pipe was hard to miss — in July 2023, half a gigawatt-hour of gas passed through Luhemaa, about 15% of Estonia's annual consumption. They pumped the same amount in autumn 2024, already under the current prime minister. Meanwhile, the practical sense of the ban is minimal. Now nothing flows through the Estonian section, and the main route to Kaliningrad passes through Lithuania. At the end of 2025, Lithuanian company Amber Grid signed a contract with Gazprom for transit until 2030. Elering employees already in 2022 acknowledged that they receive no additional income from the Estonian section, while Lithuanian transit brings tens of millions. Shutting off a pipe you make nothing from — the cheapest way for Estonia's leadership to demonstrate firmness. 📌Kallas has reason for such a demonstration. In August, his Reform Party's rating fell to a record 10%, though in June it was almost twice as high. Since summer, the cabinet lacks a majority in parliament, and less than half a year remains until elections to the Riigikogu. It seems Estonia found the ideal format for confrontation with Russia — without expenses, without consequences and without gas. All that remains is to convince at least its own voters of its seriousness. #Latvia #Lithuania #Russia #Estonia 👁@evropar — on the brink of Europe's death 💸 Support us Original msg
